Reassurance
The Scene: Living room romp of Angus and weekend guest-dog Jolene, the 80-pound black lab. Muffled growling, copious saliva, much posturing. Me: They are still playing, right?
Sounds like how cats play, with the addition of occasional yowling. Seriously, it was a couple of years before we figured out that the WonderMutt has a special growl for playing...it's an open-mouthed, grinning sort of "errrr" that's different from the "don't get to close to my mama" growl he uses when someone comes to talk with me when I'm out in the yard. Glad they had fun!
