Eight Years Ago Today

We brought her home.

We didn't know we were getting a puppy that day...

...let alone one so sweet you had to brush your teeth every time you looked at her to keep them from rotting out.

I'd never had a puppy before, ever. (After work today, I came home and changed into jeans and a t-shirt. When I found this picture, I realized I'd chosen the same shirt 8 years ago. Yes, that's when I lost it.)

She always had a very fast tongue. See? The Alpha is still reacting to being licked in the face, and she's already acting like she never did anything.

This couldn't have been her first bark, but we sure felt like that was what it was.

She's been gone more than a month now.

Her ashes, and a lock of her fur, sit on the mantel.

We still miss her terribly.

We did the best we could. And we loved her no matter what.

And we still do.

Love the "fast tongue" picture. How funny! She was just beautiful, right from the start.

You saved her and yes she saved you too. You both had a better 8 years than you would have without each other. Lots of love.

Hugs and every good wish for all of you. It's so hard, and the longing for our lost furry kids never really goes away.
I think when I cry for you all and Cub (and I'm embarrassed to admit, it's happened several times, including now), I'm also crying for Chuckie, and Otis, and Pogo, and all the furry friends who showed me God's grace and love when I couldn't sense them, or even believe in them any other way.
Grace and peace and love to you.

Oh sweetie - yes. To all that you wrote and all that others have posted...It does so hurt, I know but you and she were a gift to each other and the wound will heal, though not "as good as new" (Im kind of glad to say). Thank you for sharing some lovely memories.
Many hugs
